Super Yummy Easy Appetizers

I love putting on parties. But I am my own worst enemy ... ... AND my mum's ... as I always plan too much complicated food and end up crazily cooking at 2am and will have inevitably roped her in. Then not everything gets eaten and I feel horribly guilty about the waste. Appetizers are ... of course! ... the way forward. First off they give the impressions of lots of food and choice without creating too much waste. Second, they let you cheat BIG time! ...

Easy Italian Recipes

At the weekend, a friend and I were reminiscing about holidays in Italy. I was 9 on my first trip. It was love at first sight! My dad was a railway engineer so we travelled by train; going to sleep in France and waking up the next morning in Italy was magical. Our first trip was to Rome and the Bay of Naples, and it is Naples more than any other Italian city that draws me back time after time. I could wander round Pompei for days on end. Obviously, you just can't reminisce about holidays in Italy without the conversation turning to food ... ...

Soups for Picky Eaters

As a mum I am a big fan of soups. First off they are quick. Second, they are cheap. Third, they are one of the best ways to I know to get large quantities of veg into picky eaters who really don't like it. Now I know some mums think hiding veg is a bad idea and I agree picky eaters need to get used to the texture of veg. But, if it's a trade off between one tiny mouthful of broccoli and a super large "hidden" helping eaten without protest, I plump for the latter. ...

100 Pancake Toppings Ideas

Pancake Day, otherwise known as Shrove Tuesday :) was one of my favourite celebrations as a child. It was nothing complicated. A pancake race at school and an big pile of thin, crepe style pancakes for tea, usually topped with just lemon juice and sugar. It was one of those simple rituals kids love, which mark out their year for them. Last year my 4 year old spurned my lovingly prepared pile of pancakes but has since become a pancake junkie and can't wait until Shrove Tuesday. ...

Easy bread making might seem like a contradiction in terms! Bread making has got itself a reputation as fiddly, time consuming and hard work which is undeserved. Whilst in fact, making bread is not only easy, it's therapeutic ... all that kneading is a great stress buster! ...

Delicious Rosemary Recipes

Rosemary can be a challenge to grow. It can easily go straggly and woody and be decimated by the terribly pretty but lethal rosemary beetle. Despite our rubbish London soil and my hands off gardening style I have managed - with early staking & diligent daily beetle removal - to grow a decent rosemary bush in our front garden. I'm going to use the rosemary in some Christmas gifts but have also been looking for culinary inspiration beyond throwing it in whatever we happen to be eating. I am loving these 20 different rosemary recipes I have found so far - yes there's scrumptious bread, lamb, chicken and roast potatoes but also rosemary jelly, pastry, macaroons,  muffins, cheesecake and chocolate truffles to name just a few! Enjoy! ...

Vegetable Curry

Curry can be crammed full of hidden veg, which earns it a massive thumbs up from me when I am meal planning for the family. You might be concerned about children not like spicy food but in my experience many of them like much stronger food than we would expect. And even if you are stuck with some family members who like it hot and others who don't, this recipe will keep both hungry hoards happy. ...

Pumpkin Recipes

We're so all over excited about pumpkins this year! Regular readers will know we've been trying to grow them with little success. Four pumpkins have bitten the dust so far. The first knocked off by silly mummy and the next three chomped off by ... we suspect ... centipede. But yeah! We currently have a pumpkin growing!!! It's just a tiny bit small ... not quite the size of a golf ball ;-) ... and more than a tad green so it won't quite make the cut as a jack-o-lantern or in all the yummy pumpkin recipes we have our eyes on ;-) ...
