30 day challenges ideas to change your life

Do you know the way you live your life needs to change but you don’t know how?

Are there things you want to change up, but you can never quite get started?

Don’t fret, you’re not the only one who feels this way.

Life can be so busy that it’s hard to make changes, and more importantly, make changes that will stick.

But there is a method you can use to bring about change.

Change that will stay with you.

So, what is this method?

It’s the 30 day challenge.

30 days towards a new good habit

Taking a 30 day challenge is a very simple way of invoking change and making it into a habit.

Once something is a habit it will stick with you.

Why 30 days?

Well, because habits take time to form.

There is one theory that habits take 21 days to form

Then there’s another theory that actually it takes nearer 66 days for habits to form

Either way, doing a 30 day challenge gets you well on your way to forming a new, positive, habit.

One that will improve your health, happiness and wellbeing.

30 days gives you time to test out the habit, see and feel if it’s working for you and incorporate it into your everyday life.

How to do a 30 day challenge

Think of something you want to change about your life.

Then challenge yourself to do something for the next 30 days that helps change that area of your life.

Go for small but impactful challenges over major life changes.

If you go for something too big you will likely just about make it to the end of 30 days and then give up.

You know, like when you take a new gym membership out on January 1, go to the gym daily for a few weeks then give up.

The most successful way to make big change is to make lots of smaller changes.

Create a series of new good habits that will, over time, help you change your life for the better.

30 day challenge ideas to get you started

Here are some ideas for simple 30 day challenges you can start that will help you form new good habits that will change your life for the better.

You can choose do one 30 day challenge, do a series of 30 day challenges or do several 30 day challenges in tandem.

The important thing is to get started.

1. Sleep – create a calming bedtime routine

There’s a good chance you need more sleep than you’re getting.

One way to make this happen is to form a good bedtime routine habit.

Set yourself a regular bedtime – yes, even at the weekends – and stick to it.

Then create a simple wind down for sleep routine that means you ditch all tech at least an hour before bed.

Feel the difference in the quality of your sleep and revel in the extra time you spend asleep.

Read my post on simple sleep tips for a better night’s sleep and also my post on how to stop looking so tired all the time.

2. Drink more water

Keeping hydrated is essential.

We often also reach for food instead of water because we don’t realise we’re thirsty rather than hungry.

So drinking water is a great way to stay hydrated and stop overeating.

It also helps maintain focus and helps reduce headaches and brain fog.

Create a water drinking habit by always having a glass or bottle of water to hand.

Carry a water bottle in your bag wherever you go – I have this stainless steel bottle in my bag every day.

3. Cut the sugar

There’s a good change you eat too much sugar.

Sugar is NOT good for your health.

Ditch sugar for 30 days and form the habit of leading a not so sweet life that is So much healthier.

Read my post on 13 ways to quit sugar and detox it from your life will get you started.

4. Read a new book every 30 days

Sometimes it isn’t so much finding time to read, it’s finding the focus to read something other than the brain snacks we get from constantly scrolling.

Reading a book is a great way to switch off from the world, expand your mind and RELAX.

If you need serious motivation for this, you could join a book club.

This could be a virtual book club or a club that meets on a monthly basis.

I joined a book club at the start of 2018 and I now regularly get through at least a couple of books every month.

5. Take on a 30 day fitness challenge

Need to get fit but can never stick to a gym or exercise routine?

Take a 30 day fitness challenge to make keeping fit a habit.

Choose to set yourself a goal of a certain number of minutes of daily exercise.

Or change the way you get around to involve walking rather than getting in the car or on public transport.

Once you have one fitness habit nailed it’s amazing how easy it is to take on another, more challenging 30 day fitness challenge.

My post on building exercise into everyday life is a good place to start for inspiration.

6. Eat more vegetables

We should all be eating at least five portions of vegetables every day.

But many of us don’t.

One really simple way to make a positive change to your diet is to add an extra vegetable onto your plate at every meal.

It really is that easy.

Read my post on how to eat more healthily for more ideas on improving your daily diet.

7. Start meal planning

Set yourself a 30 day meal planning challenge.

Meal planning is my saviour when it comes to keeping my sanity on weekday evenings.

Planning our family meals in advance means there is always something healthy and delicious to make for dinner.

This also saves me and my family time and money.

We spend less on last minute takeaways and less on our well planned weekly food shop.

Read my post on how to start simple meal planning to get started.

8. Stop buying fast fashion

This one is great for you and for the world around us.

Simply stop yourself every time you go to buy a new item of clothing and ask yourself if you really need it.

Will you absolutely love it?

Is it something you NEED rather than just want.

The world is overflowing with clothing, it’s time we all stopped purchasing new items of clothing at a rate of knots and start considering why we’re doing it and the impact that fast fashion is having on our environment.

I tried this 30 day challenge a few months back and it’s completely changed my clothes shopping habits.

Which in turn has saved me money and stopped my wardrobe being a headache to navigate.

9. Carve out time for self-care

This is one of the most potent 30 day challenges you can do.

It’s so important to find time for self-care yet so many of us let this slip.

Keep it simple, choose one activity to do every day for 30 days that is something just for you.

Something that improves your wellbeing.

Take a bath rather than an evening shower, start an evening skincare routine, meditate, do a few minutes of yoga… the choice is yours, but make it something that soothes your and improves your wellbeing.
