HOW TO USE THE GROCERY SHOPPING LIST TEMPLATE
I’ve created a really easy to use grocery shoppping list that is divided into categories that you can complete with the things you need to buy for the week.

- KITCHEN SUNDRIES
Now read my quick step-by-step guide to making a grocery shopping list that is useful and reliable. It’s not rocket science, but sometimes the most simple systems can have the biggest impact.
HOW TO WRITE A RELIABLE WEEKLY GROCERY SHOPPING LIST
1. TAKE STOCK AND COMPLETE THE LIST CATEGORY BY CATEGORY
Take stock of what you have in your fridge, freezer and food cupboards and note everything down within its category or section on your list.
2. CHECK YOUR BASIC GROCERY LIST FOR THINGS TO STOCK UP ON
If you have a basic grocery list (sometimes called a master grocery list) that you use as a kitchen and pantry inventory, check against it to make sure you have all the basics you need for the week ahead on your shopping list. If you don’t currently have a grocery list, you can download one from my grocery list ideas post.
3. PLAN YOUR MEALS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD
I also like to use a meal planner for the week ahead. I base my meal plan on things I know we already have, things that need to be eaten by a certain date and things I know we like to eat. I also take into account everyone’s schedules for the week.
FREE PRINTABLE GROCERY SHOPPING LIST TEMPLATE
I’ve created a free PDF printable grocery shopping list that you can use for your weekly food shop. Simply print out a copy each week and complete with a list of the groceries you need to buy for the week ahead.

Just in case you need a further incentive to start using a weekly grocery shopping list, here’s a quick list of the benefits you will reap by taking the time to use one:
Writing a weekly grocery shopping list puts you in control of what you buy and how much you spend. You can also use it to do a little research to find the best prices ahead of doing your shop.
Putting in the time to plan your shop will save you time overall. It might take you a couple of weeks to get into the rhythmn of it, but once you do, you will find you are spending less time on grocery shopping.
3. MAKES MEAL PLANNING EASIER
It is one thing planning your meals for the week ahead, it’s another to remember all the ingredients you need to buy.
Writing a shopping list will ensure you get everything you need and will also help you see where there are overlaps on ingredients, which can in turn help you refine your meal plan.
4. YOU AND YOUR FAMILY WILL EAT MORE HEALTHILY
A weekly grocery list will help ensure you stick to buying healthy foods for you and your family, it will highlight if there are too many snacks and treats compared to healthy fruit and vegetables and it will help you plan and keep on track with family food.
5. KEEPS STRESS AT BAY
There is nothing worse than having to race round the supermarket or grocery store not really knowing what you need to by. Oh actually there is something worse, that’s having to panic buy food on the way home from work!
We all lead busy lives, so anything that helps reduce the time and effort involved in a weekly chore such as grocery shopping is a win.
6. IT’S ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
Using a grocery shopping list will help ensure that you don’t buy more than you need, which in turn will help ensure you don’t end up wasting food.
We all need to do our bit for the environment and using my grocery shopping list template is a great way to help you do your bit!
