GIVE A FIRST TRIMESTER CARE PACKAGE TO SHOW YOU… CARE!
Putting together a first trimester care package for someone who has just found out they are pregnant is a lovely way of supporting them in the early weeks of their pregnancy. As a mom who has been through pregnancy, I’ve looked back to the early days of pregnancy and put together a list useful and thoughtful things that I would have loved someone to have put in a care package for me. The essentials that can help a newly pregnant mom-to-be cope with morning sickness, feeling comfortable in her changing body and preparing for the arrival of her newborn baby.
MUST-HAVES TO PUT IN A FIRST TRIMESTER CARE PACKAGE
The early weeks of pregnancy can be quite a rollercoaster for the body and mind of someone who is newly pregnant, especially if it is their first pregnancy.
Whether you are a husband, wife, partner, friend or grandparent-to-be, putting together a few useful or comforting items is a great way to show how much you care.
So, what should you put in a care package? What are the must-have or essential items that every pregnant woman needs in her first trimester kit? There are some things that it is best left to a woman to buy for herself, or for her to be recommended by her OBGYN, but there are plenty of things that you pop into a care package as a gift to her.
USEFUL THINGS TO INCLUDE IN A FIRST-TRIMESTER CARE PACKAGE
Here’s a list of some of the necessities and must-haves that any woman in her first trimester would truly appreciate being given.
1. MORNING SICKNESS RELIEF
Morning sickness usually starts around 6 weeks into pregnancy and lasts through the first trimester. Here’s a list of things to choose from that you could add into the care package that will give the mom-to-be some nausea relief.
Upspring Stomach Settle Drops
UpSpring Stomach Settle is one of the most popular morning sickness candy products on Amazon. The drops have got lemon, ginger and honey, three flavors known to help quell the symptoms of morning sickness nausea.
SEA BAND NATURAL NAUSEA RELIEF
Acupressure bands are one of the most reliable ways to gain some relief from morning sickness. Sea-Bands Nausea Relief bands are an absolute best-seller.
NATURAL ALCOHOL FREE MOUTHWASH
Mouthwash is a great addition to a care package for two reasons. Firstly, to have to hand after an episode of vomiting. Secondly, gums and teeth can get very sensitive during pregnancy, so using mouthwash helps keep gums and teeth healthy.
pink stork magnesium body spray
Magnesium is reputed to help ease aches and pains, relieve nausea and improve sleep, all issues that can arise in the first trimester. So this Magnesium Body Spray by Pink Stork is a winning addition to a care package.
VITAMIN B GUMMIE
Another double-whammy item to add into the package, Vitamin B6 is important for a baby’s brain development and immune function, it is research also suggests it can help reduce nausea and vomiting. Go for B6 Melts or Gummies, as they are more palatable if you are suffering from morning sickness.
I FEEL THE URGE TO VOMIT BAGS
Ok, cutest vomit bags in the world EVER!!! There is no getting around it, vomiting sucks. But if you can help put a smile on the face of someone either before or after they vomit, you are a good person!! These I Feel The Urge To Vomit bags are just the thing for a newly pregnant woman to have in her kit!!
BKR GLASS WATER BOTTLE
Glass water bottles are my newest discovery, the most brilliant thing about them is that you don’t get a metallic or plastic taste when you drink from them, just the taste of water. I have a pink BKR glass water bottle and it is a thing of beauty.
It is so important for pregnant women to drink plenty of water, it’s also really important to rehydrate after vomiting. So a gorgeous water bottle is a no-brainer addition to a first trimester care package or this bottle could make a great first trimester gift on its own!
honest hand sanitizer
It’s important to keep your hands clean and sanitized, especially in the world we are currently living in. This Honest Hand Sanitizer is great because it is made from naturally-derived ingredients, is free from nasties like parabens and still manages to kill 99.9% of germs and bacteria.
MORNING SICKNESS GINGER TEA
There are some great morning sickness tea blends out there. Pink Stork Morning Sickness tea is a best-seller on Amazon, with women who have bought it saying how calming it is as well as giving relief from nausea. it can be drunk hot or cold, so it’s equally good in summer as in winter. It’s a first trimester necessity!
breath mints
Anyone going through the throes of throwing up will be grateful to have a breath mint to hand. These GINGER SIMPLY MINTS are made with only natural ingredients, including ground ginger and are aspartame-free, vegan and gluten-free, so perfect for pregnant women watching what they put in their body.
I’ve also put together an even bigger list of ideas that you could use to create a morning sickness care package for someone really suffering from nausea and vomiting.
2. CARE FOR A CHANGING BODY
There’s a lot going on with a pregnant body, it is making a whole new life after all!! So it’s a lovely idea to include some self-care items and also a couple of things to make a first trimester mom-to-be feel as comfortable as possible in her body.
MAEBAND WAISTBAND EXTENDER
A pregnant belly can be bloated and uncomfortable in the first trimester, but in a lot of cases, it isn’t a belly ready for maternity clothes! However, it is often a belly in need of a little more space than a woman’s regular clothes will allow. Enter the MaeBand Waistband Extender. A simple temporary expansion band that adds a little extra stretch to any waistband. In short, it turns non-maternity wear into almost maternity wear! It’s a first trimester must-have!
SOFT BRISTLE BAMBOO TOOTHBRUSH
The hormonal changes of pregnancy can wreak havoc on teeth and gums, so it’s good to start using a softer bristled brush than usual. Make it a bamboo toothbrush that you add into the care package to show a little care for the environment too!!
TUMS ANTACID DROPS
Not the most exciting item to put in a gift – unless the recipient is someone in her first trimester dealing with heartburn!!! TUMS tablets are known to be a known safe heartburn reliever. These little tablets end up being a total necessity for a lot of pregnant women.
bliss peppermint foot cream
It’s pretty common to have aches, pains and even swollen feet during the first trimester. Whether these things occur or not, what could be better than massaging in some peppermint foot cream… Oh I know, having someone else massage the foot cream in! Necessity? I’d say so!!
burt’s bees belly butter
Whilst stretch marks have a genetic link, it is still great to have a bump cream to keep the skin as strong and healthy as possible as it stretches to accommodate a baby. It’s also just plain lovely to have a nice body lotion, like Burt’s Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter for a bit of pampering!!
PINK STORK PREGNANCY BATH SOAK
It’s so lovely being able to soak away the stresses of the day when you are dealing with aches, pains, nausea and fatigue caused by the first trimester. These Pink Stork Pregnancy Flakes are made with Dead Sea salt and are an absolute hit best-seller on Amazon.
3. THINGS TO READ AND WAYS TO RECORD THE PREGNANCY
WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING
What To Expect When You’re Expecting is pretty much known as a pregnancy bible and has sold over 19 million copies. It was first written by Heidi Murkoff after she failed to find the information she wanted when pregnant with her first child. It’s been regularly updated to have all the latest info. I think this book is a must-have for every expectant mom.
DRINKING FOR TWO
Drinking For Two was selected as one of Food Network’s “Best Healthy Cookbooks of 2019” and as a “favorite must-read” by The Bump. It’s got 45+ delicious plant-based cocktail recipes that deliver essential nutrients and antioxidants.
PREGNANCY TRACKER CHALK BOARD
This idea is just a little novelty something to include in a care package, chalkboard trackers are pretty on-trend at the moment, so why not add one in!
pregnancy journal
This is the best-selling pregnancy journal on Amazon. It has over 6,000 reviews giving it an average 4.7 star rating. In short, if you want to include a pregnancy journal, this one is a winner!
PREGNANCY ULTRASOUND FRAME
Everyone treasures their first ultrasound scan so it’s nice to have a lovely frame to put it in. This frame is rather gorgeous because it has room for first, second and third trimester scans.
AND FINALLY…. I COULDN’T END WITHOUT INCLUDING THESE…
WAV HELLO BABY BUMP HEADPHONES
I KNOW ALREADY!!! Super cute!! We all know that babies soak up a lot of information whilst they are in the womb, so why not getting them tuned into good taste in music!! These WAV Hello baby bump headphones are going down a storm on Amazon, they are such a brilliant addition to a first trimester care package, as a little something for going into the second trimester.
